Director Foundation Trainees’ Surgical Societies (FTSS)

The FTSS offers a forum for all doctors considering a career in surgery, especially at the Foundation and Core surgical training stages. The organisation is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and advancement in surgical practice. The regional network was established in 2020 by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) with regional representation and national collaboration in all FTSS activities. There are 15 regional societies, and all members are eligible for affiliate status and the RCSEd.

The FTSS and the proposed National Core Trainee Forum have expanded greatly in a very short time. They have been a great success with fantastic feedback from Foundation and core trainees. RCSEd Affiliates are a very important group as it would be hoped that many would progress into a surgical career and join the RCSEd as members and fellows in the future.

Therefore, it is time to establish the post of a Director of the FTSS to oversee and develop this fast growing and important group independent of the Regional Surgical Ambassador (RSA) network but cooperating with the RSA network.

Interested UK-based Fellows should contact Moira Britton for a copy of the job description m.britton@rcsed.ac.uk.

A short supporting statement should be provided (no more than one page) explaining your motivation and suitability for the role.

The successful applicant would be appointed for two years with the role starting in Spring 2024.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 5 January 2024 and it is proposed to hold interviews on Monday 29 January 2024.  These interviews shall be face-to-face or by video conference.
