Statement on COVID-19 Vaccination and second doses by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges

The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges firmly supports the decision of the four UK chief medical officers to prioritise the delivery of the first COVID-19 vaccine dose, and to delay the second dose to up to 12 weeks.

With the latest lockdown in place in the UK, we are disappointed that it will mean inevitable further delays in being able to welcome our new Members and Fellows to a diploma ceremony in Edinburgh. The new restrictions mean the College campus in Edinburgh has closed and unfortunately, this means we are unable to send out diploma certificates in the month of January.
Important update on the MRCS Part B and DO-HNS Part 2 examinations in the UK and Ireland in February 2021
Due to the current rise in COVID-19 infections, which has led to new lockdown restrictions and increased pressure on the health services in the UK and Ireland, the Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examinations (ICBSE) and the four Surgical Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom and in Ireland have taken the difficult decision to cancel the MRCS Part B and DO-HNS Part 2 examinations that had been scheduled to take place in February 2021.
