Senior Developer

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is an independent membership organisation concerned principally with the education, training and assessment of Surgeons, Dental Surgeons and Doctors who are involved in the surgical care of patients.  Founded in 1505, the College currently has a membership approaching 25,000 in approximately 100 countries throughout the world.

About the Role

Working in the Applications and Online Services Team you will develop and maintain a range of business applications that provide internal and external information services across a range of College business areas. To support and enhance cross-system interoperability. Support key business areas in the use of a range of developed systems and technologies that underpin the work of the College. Engage with colleagues throughout the business to gather requirements and evolve application functionality in line with business requirements. To provide technical leadership and direction in the application of new and emerging technology to College systems and online services.

Experience/Qualifications/Key Skills

This is a superb opportunity for an individual who is a good communicator with the ability to work to tight deadlines and be calm under pressure.

You will be educated to a minimum level of HND/Degree or have demonstrable experience with good educational standards. Microsoft Developer Certification is desirable.

You will have substantial experience in a related programming environment and ASP.NET development experience. Experience of relational database design, stored procedure development and Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 experience is essential as is XML and web services development. Experience of unit testing  .NET framework versions 2/3.5/4.5             

Experience of HTML5, xhtml, css, Javascript and Jquery, other web related technologies are desirable as is experience of IIS 6 upwards, WIF, Windows Work Flow, WCF, Entity Framework, MSMQ. Experience of Single Sign On and identity management, working in an agile environment, Team Foundation Server or other source control, Umbraco content management system, management of Windows Servers and online customer ecommerce portals are also desirable.
