Informed Consent - why sharing the decision is safer for everyone

25th June 2020 at 20:00 GMT+1

Patient safety is not a single absolute. This ICONS webinar will explore how safety can be regarded as a patient centred, relative concept whose understanding is essential for robust informed consent processes. It will also focus on how surgeons share decisions with patients, and how patients in turn share their decision with others outwith the clinic.

Professor Janet A. Wilson

Janet Wilson is Professor of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Newcastle University, and Honorary Consultant Otolaryngologist at Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust. Janet is also a Convenor of the RCSEd ICONS Workshop. The desire in the 21st Century to align surgical interventions - and their alternatives - with Patient values and expectations underpins the RCSEd ICONS workshops - Informed CONsent Sharing the decision. Patients helped form the ICONS outline, and delegates at all grades from core trainees to experienced consultants have helped refine this message.

This will be made available to RCSEd Fellows, Members and Affiliates following the live webinar on 25th June 2020.
