Early management of trauma

This is the first webinar presented by the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care. The theme of this session is early trauma care which is a key focus of pre-hospital critical care and of interest to a wide range of acute care specialists. The presenters are experienced trauma experts from different centres and different backgrounds who have made major contributions in their areas of expertise and pre-hospital and trauma care more generally. We will deliver three topical short presentations emphasising pre-hospital care and innovation and how good outcomes are or could be achieved. We look forward to answering questions from participants from a wide range of backgrounds.

- Professor Mike Griffin: Introduction
President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
- Professor David Lockey: Chair
Chairman of the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care.
- Professor Mark Wilson: Early management of head spinal / injury
Mark is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at St Mary’s in London with an interest in head injury. He is a Pre-Hospital Care Doctor and has worked on several UK air ambulances. He was the first appointed Gibson Chair at the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care. He co-founded the highly successful GoodSAM app.
- Associate Professor Dan Ellis: High performing trauma systems
Dan is currently the Director of Trauma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Co-Chair of the Statewide South Australian Trauma Service (SATS). He was previously Clinical Director of MedSTAR – the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service, part of South Australian Ambulance. As well as the Trauma role, he now works as a Pre-Hospital and Retrieval consultant with MedSTAR, as an Intensivist in Calvary healthcare and as a consultant in the Royal Adelaide Emergency Department. Dan is an accredited specialist in Emergency, Intensive Care and Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine and has worked in critical care in Australia and the UK for over 20 years.
- Dr Anne Weaver: Early transfusion in trauma
Consultant in Emergency and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine in London. Major Trauma Director at the Royal London Hospital and former Clinical Lead at London's Air Ambulance. Anne has been a leader in the introduction of blood and blood products into UK pre-hospital practice.
