Paediatric cardiac surgery

This webinar will look at the initial steps of congenital cardiac surgery and how corrective surgery have evolved. We will discuss some of the emerging surgical problems related to adult with congenital cardiac disease.

Prof Attilio Lotto
Consultant in Congenital Cardiac Surgery, Alder Hey Children’s, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. Professor in Congenital Cardiac Surgery, Liverpool John Moores University. Attilio graduated from the University of Milan, Italy. In 1998, he moved to UK to complete his basic surgical training and in 2002 started the cardiothoracic surgical training. In 2015 he moved to Liverpool to take up a position as consultant at the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Since 2018 he is also involved in operating on Adult with Congenital Heart disease at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. His surgical practice comprises treatment for the whole spectrum of Congenital Cardiac Disease developing a particular interest in early one stage repair of congenital heart disease in neonates. As a result of his academic interests, he also holds a Professorship at Liverpool John Moores University.
Dr. Sivakumar Sivalingam
Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Clinical Director of Congenital Heart Surgery, National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur. After obtaining his medical qualification from the Mangalore University, India in 1993, he underwent training for general surgery in Malaysia and obtained his postgraduate qualification in General Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1998. At the same time, I obtained my fellowship in surgery from the Royal College of Edinburgh and Ireland. Subsequently he continued his training at the West Midland Deanery, United Kingdom as a Specialist Registrar in cardiothoracic surgery and obtained my FRCS(C.Th) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2005. I underwent training in Congenital Heart Surgery at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2007 and currently hold the position of Clinical Director in Congenital Heart Surgery since 2010. I am interested in education, surgical training and quality improvement programs in Congenital Heart Surgery
