Following the announcement that the BMA and the Government have reached an agreement to end the dispute over the junior doctors’ contract, Mr Michael Lavelle-Jones, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh said:

"I am delighted that both sides have come to a settlement and whilst we now await the outcome of the ballot, hope that this will mark an end to this long running dispute.

“The talks over the last ten days have been worthwhile, and I am particularly glad that the pivotal role junior doctors play in delivering our NHS has been recognised and due regard given to their training and support needs.

“I hope today’s announcement will mean that all parties can now return to focusing on delivering the best possible patient care within a world class health service.”
