Policy and Public Affairs
RCSEd continually engages with our membership to understand the priorities of our members and fellows, produce RCSEd policy positions and then engage with the full range of policymakers and stakeholders across the UK to raise the College’s visibility and influence. These including the UK, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish governments, Parliamentarians, NHSE, Statutory Educational Bodies, medical and healthcare regulators, other Royal Colleges and medical bodies to advocate on issues that surgeons, dental surgeons and perioperative staff at all stages of their careers have told us that matter most to them.
We place a particular priority on the welfare of our members and fellows, equality, diversity and inclusion within surgery and dentistry, reducing the backlog of surgical cases and protecting the training pipeline. This has led to a number of RCSEd campaigns, such as #letsremoveit that was nominated for HSJ and BMJ awards, productive collaborations with other healthcare organisation around workforce planning and successful lobbying of government departments and Ministers.

The Policy and Public Affairs team liaise closely with our membership to inform RCSEd’s policy positions.
