As members of the Scottish Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and Faculties, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh wholeheartedly endorse this response to the vote by junior doctors in Scotland in favour of industrial action.

Members of the Scottish Academy are concerned that junior doctors feel so undervalued they have voted to strike to improve their terms and conditions of work.  Our junior doctors are a key part of the NHS workforce across the whole of the NHS and are greatly valued by the Royal Medical Colleges and Faculties.

The Scottish Academy is not a union and will not comment on the specifics of the BMA Scottish Junior Doctors Committee position.

The Scottish Academy wholeheartedly endorses the statement published by Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 5 May 2023 and joins their call for continued dialogue between the BMA and Scottish Government, in pursuit of reaching agreement and avoiding strike action.
