Responding to the publication of Public Health England’s report focused on ‘Understanding the impact of COVID-19 on BAME groups’, Professor Michael Griffin OBE, President of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, said:
“We very much welcome this report and the many important recommendations it makes. The Covid crisis has worsened a number of existing health inequalities and imbalanced access to treatment – it is important that swift, decisive action is taken to address this. We support the report’s call for more research and audits, better data collection, improved risk assessment and protection at work of vulnerable groups, and public health campaigns to help deal with this issue. It is crucial that all action taken creates long-term change.”
