The Faculty of Remote and Rural Healthcare (FRRH) are proud to announce their first Business Breakfast, taking place at The Royal Automobile Club, London on Wednesday 25 September 2019.
Join us to hear more on the activities of FRRH, how to get involved and how you can support the development of FRRH and remote and rural healthcare globally. The event will be hosted by FRRH Deputy Chair, Dr Rikard Moen, Head of Health, Transport for London and supported by FRRH Chair, Alistair Fraser, VP of Health, Shell.
Many people around the world live in isolated communities working in industries such as oil and gas, mining, shipping or in the armed forces, where remoteness is a direct challenge to health and wellbeing. The FRRH will create a collective identity for the remote and rural profession by becoming a platform that will facilitate discussion and exchange on new ideas, good practice, innovation, and look to offer inspiration by overcoming professional isolation.
The event speakers are three advocates of the professional diversity that the Faculty looks to support in developing remote and rural healthcare. Each speaker listed below will discuss the challenges to healthcare faced within their respective arenas.
Dr Colin Thomas – Chief Medical Officer, BBC Safety Security & Resilience. An occupational physician since 1988, Dr Colin Thomas has worked in diverse organisations such as the NHS, local authorities and manufacturing companies. In 2006 he joined the BBC as Chief Medical Officer. In his current role he is balancing the management of outsourced services with smaller in-house strategic offerings to ensure the BBC's 20,00 staff are looked after.
Brian O’Connor – Chair, European Connected Health Alliance CIC. Founder of a number of companies in the healthcare services area in the UK, Ireland and Hong Kong, Brian O’Connor gained significant experience as a company director in a variety of industries and professions, and has raised significant sums for companies through both private equity structures and stock exchange listings.
Dr Will Ponsonby – President of the Society of Occupational Medicine. A highly experienced international corporate health manager and occupational health physician with vast experience in international occupational health management in oil and gas, manufacturing and local government. His previous senior management roles have been held as Head of Health, Rio Tinto and Regional Health Manager Middle East and Africa, Shell.
