Last month The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh hosted the 18th Audit and QI Symposium, which aimed to identify ways for quality improvement.

The event gave trainees at all levels the opportunity to present their Audit and QI work and culminated with the Mckeown Medal Lecture talk held by Professor Thomas Weiser, who highlighted the importance of measurement in safety:

“ Measurement drives our practice and improvement”.

RCSEd Vice-President Mr. Pala Rajesh was also present at the symposium, who warmly welcomed the delegates who attended:

"Welcome to the friendliest College. Our vision is to facilitate your surgical careers, supporting innovation and research on to your senior years and maintaining patient safety and quality improvement."

The fantastic lineup of speakers included Mr. Steven Backhouse, who gave an engaging talk on the human factors approach to Quality Improvement, debunking a series of common myths:

"Human factors is not about eliminating human error, it is about focusing on improving all aspects of human work".
