Building on the historical relationship between The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), we are delighted to announce a new partnership between both bodies that will continue their shared focus on setting international standards in surgical education. The collaboration will support and encourage the key objective to offer benefit to trainees, and allow them to move through a more streamline system, in order to achieve their goal.
RCSEd view this partnership as a breakthrough and significant step in our continuing efforts to improve knowledge and excellence in professional standard setting across the world.
Professor Baljean Dhillion, RCSEd Exam Lead for Ophthalmology, Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Hon. Consultant Ophthalmology said:
"Our vision is to build on the international reputation of the RCSEd and forge a uniform, gold standard, global pathway accessible to candidates from all countries. We share the ICO's ethos of expanding and up-skilling ophthalmologists to meet the urgent need to reduce global blindness and our shared vision is that expertise and excellence in safe and effective clinical practice is reflected by our postgraduate qualifications process. The new partnership between the RCSEd and the ICO will ensure the route from ICO to MRCSEd is seamless and opens the door for candidates to sit the Part C examination to achieve the qualification of FRCSEd, the highest standard of attainment from the oldest and most prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in the world."
