The Welsh Government has released its new plan for health and social care in Wales – A Healthier Wales. In response to its release, RCSEd President Professor Michael Lavelle Jones said:

“The plan focuses on a whole system approach to health and social care with a much needed equity across physical health, mental health and social care. Delivering care as close to home as possible and a renewed focus on preventative health and social care should have a positive impact on secondary care by reducing avoidable admissions.

“While this report identifies long term solutions for the delivery of health and social care in Wales, there is an urgent need to address the current pressures on delivering secondary care which are consequently resulting in long waiting times.”
