New College President Elected

Professor S Michael Griffin has been elected as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh today. Professor Griffin will take up office following the Edinburgh College’s Annual General Meeting on 9 November 2018. The RCSEd presidency lasts for 3 years.
Professor Griffin is currently a member of College Council and a member of a number of sub-Committees of the College. Professor Griffin is currently Professor of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
On learning of his election, Professor Griffin said: "I am truly delighted and honoured to take up this role."
Making the announcement, current President Professor Michael Lavelle-Jones said:
“I was delighted today to announce the outcome of the Presidential election. I congratulate Professor Michael Griffin on his success and wish him a successful and enjoyable Presidency. I know the College is in safe hands.
“There can only be one winner in any Presidential election and I extend my commiserations and thanks to Professor Graham Layer and Professor Richard Montgomery for their contributions to our College and wish them well for the future.”
