The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh today welcomes the publication of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) report that raises significant concerns about the safety and leadership of Surgical Care among some private providers.
We strongly support recognition of the pivotal importance of corporate responsibility supported by formal governance process as a means of overseeing individual clinicians clinical activity in the private sector.
CQC inspections also raised concerns such as a lack of safety checks and poor monitoring of risks. We therefore support calls for private hospitals to publish data the NHS normally publishes on unexpected deaths, never events, and serious injuries to patients, as well as data on the outcomes of treatment.
