This week, an agreement was signed between the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Association of Surgeons of Malta which will lead to further collaboration between the two organisations.

In the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), RCSEd will, in the spirit of cooperation, recognise and support the work of the Assocation of Surgeons of Malta and will allow Maltese surgeons to be able to receive RCSEd training and certification in Malta.

Addressing a press conference, Maltese Minister for Health, RCSEd Fellow and Paediatric Surgeon Hon. Christopher Fearne said this was an important step which continues to get closer to the Government’s vision for Malta to become an international centre of excellence in medical teaching. Minister Fearne himself is one of some 100 Maltese surgeons who have received training from the Edinburgh College.

RCSEd President Professor Michael Lavelle-Jones commented that as one of the the oldest surgical royal colleges, with a history going back over 500 years, the College was pleased to be strengthening relations with the Association of Surgeons of Malta.
