The College is pleased to announce that Mark Peter has been appointed Chair of the Younger Fellows' Committee, with Peter Driscoll appointed as Deputy Chair.
Mr Peter is a Consultant UGI and Bariatric Surgeon at the Calderdale and Huddersfield Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is one of the inaugural committee members of the Younger Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and has facilitated several of the regional RCSEdYF meetings and the inaugural RCSEdYF Residential Forum.
Mr Peter said, “It is an honour and a privilege to represent the RCSEd Younger Fellows Network. I look forward to working with Peter Driscoll who was recently appointed Deputy Chair (Congratulations!) to exciting new challenges ahead. I know we have big shoes to fill given the successes since its inception.
There is no doubt that the NHS is at a nadir. Austerity measures, contract changes, bed pressures, workforce issues, the list goes on... But surgery remains one of the most fulfilling careers; always trying to be better whilst maintaining a sense of fun and camaraderie is the recurring theme we have seen in our recent events.
We are looking forward to all the new Younger Fellows joining us in future events (and maybe not so younger fellows to continue to guide us!)."
A Younger Fellow (YF) is defined as any surgeon who has obtained Fellowship within the last 10 years. The aim of the group is to facilitate younger surgeons of all disciplines and from all locations in the UK to socialise, get involved in College life and feedback their opinions on professional issues to Council through the YF Committee, as well as provide an outlet to discuss frustrations or share success stories with new friends and like-minded colleagues.
