One of the College’s International Surgical Advisers has received one of India’s highest civilian honour.

Dr P. Raghu Ram (pictured left), an oncoplastic breast surgeon in Hyderabad, was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India in March 2015.

The award was made in recognition of Dr Ram’s work in improving breast healthcare and his contribution to promoting the highest standards of surgical education in India through his association with the RCSEd.

Dr Ram established the Indian Subcontinent’s first purpose-built comprehensive breast health centre at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad and the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, which aims to empower women to be breast-aware by highlighting the benefits of early detection.

UBF has been working tirelessly to accomplish its mission of providing a responsive education outreach service across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Dr Raghu Ram has also garnered support to establish the Association of Breast Surgeons of India, for which he was elected President 2015-17.
