The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has given its backing to new quality standards from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). The guidelines cover the diagnosis and management of constipation in children and young people and are expected to contribute to outcome improvements in, among other areas, rates of A&E attendance and unplanned hospitalisation.

The RCSEd would encourage all those commissioning or providing services relating to constipation in children and young people to use the quality standard from NICE.
