The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is getting set to transform itself into two venues for this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In August, for 23 days only Space UK will convert the College’s Quincentenary & Symposium Hall into five state-of-the-art theatres.

As a Festival venue, this year Space UK will have five theatre spaces at the College, which will host 85 different  productions (46 shows per day) with 1840 performers, crew and engineers to an estimated  audience of 50,000 festival-goers.

Following huge success in previous years, the stylish courtyard bar '@ Surgeons’ Hall’ is returning to cater for the city’s festival crowds and will provide the perfect setting to embrace the exciting atmosphere.

New for 2014, the College have leased the gardens of Hill Square from The City of Edinburgh Council, and for the month it will be known as the 'Festival Garden'. The Square has been transformed with painted railings, repaired grass, picnic benches and parasols. Food can be ordered from the Wine Bar of Ten Hill Place Hotel or the Bar at Space @ Symposium Hall.

Commercial Director of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scott Mitchell said:

"We first began leasing our venues to Festival producers in 2008 and since then, we have expanded to offer Festival crowds an atmospheric, vibrant outdoor courtyard bar and now the Festival Garden, all complimentary to the fabulous shows brought to us by Space UK.

"We are delighted to be working closely with The City of Edinburgh Council to bring Hill Square into use and we are pleased with our initial upgrading. Moving forward, we hope to significantly upgrade these gardens over the coming years and I thank the many people at the Council for their invaluable assistance so far.

"We hope people of the city and visitors from beyond take the opportunity this August to stop by to experience what The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has to offer.”

The Courtyard Bar will be open from midday – 1am, and the Festival Garden will be open until 9pm, seven days a week, from 1-23 August 2014.
