The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) has announced that orthopaedic surgeon and RCSEd Fellow Miss Clare Marx has been made President-elect to the RCS during Council elections, and will take up her appointment in July 2014. She will be the first female President elected to RCSEng in its 214-year history.
Speaking on behalf of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, RCSEd President Mr Ian Ritchie said:
"The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh sends Ms Clare Marx our congratulations on the announcement of her appointment to the presidency of our sister College, The Royal College of Surgeons of England.
"Ms Marx has been an ad hominem Fellow of RCSEd since 2009, and is well known in the surgical community for the work she has undertaken over the years in championing patient safety and quality measures, as well as her efforts to encourage more women to enter surgery.
"I look forward to working with her in supporting the Fellows and Members of both our Colleges in providing excellent care for patients."
