A long-serving Member of the RCSEd's Dental Council has received a Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to dentistry.

Professor Bill Saunders, who was Dean of Dundee University's Dental School for over 10 years and has served three terms on RCSEd's Dental Council, was presented with the accolade at the inaugural Scottish Dental Show in May.

Dean of the Dental Faculty, Professor Richard Ibbetson commented:

"Professor Saunders is a highly-respected dental academic with an international reputation in Endodontics. Among his many professional achievements, Bill was Chair of the UK Dental Schools Council and chaired the RCSEd's Specialist Advisory Board in Restorative Dentistry for six years. Bill has been, and continues to be, a great strength within the Dental Faculty and the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

"To win this prestigious award, Bill saw off stiff competition from other distinguished people in Scottish dentistry. I'm sure that he gained great satisfaction from knowing that the award was decided by the votes of the dental profession in Scotland. We are extremely pleased that Bill has been recognised - many congratulations."
