Additional Information 

Professional athletes are surrounded by a team of coaching experts and advisors in order to let them achieve their best. However, the surgical profession has been slow to provide similar support and advice to help surgeons achieve peak performance in increasingly high-pressured and stressful systems. The three day event will draw lessons and inspiration from the world of sports and combine lectures, group discussions, outdoor and social activities, all in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. In addition, College representatives at the Forum will include the President, Professor Michael Griffin, who will be in attendance to listen to the concerns of Younger Fellows and use these discussions to help shape future Council policy.

Applications

Applications for attending the Younger Fellows’ Forum will be reviewed by the Younger Fellows’ Committee after the closing date on 10^th January 2020. All applications from RCSEd Fellows who are in Good Standing will be reviewed and applicants selected to attend the Forum, ensuring a regional and specialty spread.  The outcome of the selection process will be advised in mid - late January.

Delegates will be required to fund their own travel to and from the venue.  Meals, accommodation and mandatory activities on the 25^th and 27^th March will be subsidised.

Past Residential Forums

Participants in the 2017 YF Forum at Carden Park on the theme “Healthy Surgeon, Healthy Patient” provided overwhelmingly positive feedback from having attended the forum, and commented that they felt better equipped to deal with stress and manage the pressures of a surgical career, through having attended the forum which in 2017, was designed to provide insight and techniques to be used for dealing with these issues.
