Delegates signed up as assistant will have the chance to be the first assistant in the following procedures: right hemicolectomy, subtotal colectomy, anterior resection, splenectomy and bleeding & perforated duodenal ulcer. They will have an understanding of the surgical anatomy related to the procedure, operative steps and the principles of how to perform the procedure safely
Trainees level - ST3 to ST6 (or equivalent). Please contact us for further information and to register.
Medical Students, Core Trainees, ST1, ST2, ST3, Nurses
Short presentations followed by practical hands-on workstations - performing open surgical procedures on cadavers under direct supervision.
The course aims to address the gap in the market for courses covering intermediate and major open abdominal procedures. In the past, there was no need for this type of course as trainees acquired the necessary skills through 'apprenticeships' and long hours of training. This course will aid the current training model.
After having attended this course participants will have the knowledge and skills required to perform the following surgical procedures under supervision:
- Open appendectomy;
- Open inguinal hernia repair;
- Open cholecystectomy;
- Midline incision & mass closure of midline incision;
- Small bowel resection and anastomosis.
