Award
- Prize of £500 and free first year Fellowship of the Society.
- Runners-up will receive free first year Fellowship of the Society.
Eligibility
Students and practitioners of medicine, dentistry and medical scientists of non-consultant grade.
Conditions
- Applicants should provide personal details including postal and email address, eligibility etc, and the title and outline of their proposed submission.
- Each entrant should submit an essay of up to 1500 words plus references and illustrations on a subject of relevance to John or William Hunter or medicine in the 18th Century.
- Entries should be submitted electronically.
- Shortlisted entrants are expected to make a power-point presentation of 15 minutes, followed by five-minutes for questions.
Timescale
- Deadline for submissions is 1 April 2010.
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified by July 2010.
- Presentations and award of the Hunterian Society Prize will take place at a meeting in October 2010.

The Hunterian Scholarship
Award
- Applications are invited for a scholarship to assist with the fees for the History of Medicine Course of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London.
- Free first year Fellowship of the Society will be offered.
Eligibility
Fully registered, non-consultant grade doctors, dentists and medical scientists.
Conditions
- Completion of the Diploma in the History of Medicine Course of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London including the examinations, dissertation and test lecture.
- Dissertation should have some relevance to John or William Hunter or medicine in the 18th Century.
- Presentation of a 10 or 15 minute abstract at the Inaugural meeting.
- Award to be presented following the presentation at the Inaugural meeting held in September 2010.

- Shortlisted candidates will be notified by July 2010.

DIPLOMA COURSE IN THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE
The course is intended to give a good general introduction to the subject for medical and non-medical participants, as well as providing preparation for the Society of Apothecaries' diploma examination (DHMSA).
The Course Director is Dr David Siegler, MD, FRCP, DHMSA
It is run annually and takes place on Saturday mornings at the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UCL, 183 Euston Road, London NW1 2BE and The Society of Apothecaries, Apothecaries' Hall, Blackfriars Lane, London, EC4V 6EJ.
