Course Information: The ethos of the Intercollegiate Basic Surgical Skills Course (BSSC) is to install core surgical skills at the very start of a surgeon's training by teaching the correct basic technique. The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh runs ten Basic Surgical Skills Courses per year in our Surgical Skills Laboratory in the College. Their immense popularity in Edinburgh is due to successful local organisation, enthusiastic teaching Faculty and the advantages of a relaxed and congenial laboratory environment. The faculty itself is drawn from a specially selected group of surgeons, each with a wide range of knowledge and experience in teaching. The audio-visual facilities in the Surgical Skills Laboratory allow the tutors' demonstrations to be viewed on monitors around the room at each workstation making teaching and learning both easier and more enjoyable. The Basic Surgical Skills Course is a mandatory requirement for those taking the Collegiate MRCS Examination in Surgery in General. (Please note that this course is not mandatory for those candidates applying for the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination).
