In touch with professional issues
Surgical specialties and interest groups are represented at the RCSEd by 12 Specialty Advisory Boards (SABs).
The College’s SABs ensure that the RCSEd is kept apprised of current interests and issues across the surgical profession and cultivate close links between the College and the surgical specialties.
The SABs may raise issues for discussion with the RCSEd Council and may have matters referred to them by the Council.
Chairmen of the SABs attend Council meetings four times per year and a Vice President is invited to attend all SAB meetings.
The College's SABs:
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- General Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Ophthalmology
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Orthopaedic & trauma surgery
- Otolaryngology
- Paediatric surgery
- Plastic Surgery
- Podiatric Surgery
- Urology
- Women in Surgery
How a SAB is Structured
SABs have between four and ten members, including the Chief Medical Officer’s Adviser, a trainee representative, and a member of the Specialty SAC; sub-specialties are also represented where applicable. SAB Chairmen are elected for a three-year appointment, which can be extended for a further three years.
