Eligibility for the award of a Training/Research Fellowship shall be open to Members/Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in good standing intending to undertake research projects in the UK only. Surgical trainees who are within a year of completing the MRCS and would want to join the RCSEd are also eligible.
A Research Fellowship will normally be awarded for a period of one year but in special circumstances extension of the Fellowship for a further year at the same rate may be granted.
In the award of Training Fellowships preference will be given to applicants seeking to undergo training in a particular field of surgery or to acquire expertise in a specific technique.
Overseas applicants intending to undergo training in Britain which involves them in the clinical care of patients must have an assurance of GMC registration and of medico-legal indemnity.
Overseas applicants intending to take up established or supernumerary clinical posts which are included in organised British training programmes must submit evidence of acceptance by the Postgraduate Deans concerned.
It is a condition of the award that a Progress Report is sent to the College on completion of the period of research.
