Research Allocation Committee
College Awards, Grants and Fellowships are decided upon by the Research Allocation Committee.
The Research Allocation Committee meets twice yearly (February and September / October) and the Ophthalmology Sub-Committee yearly (February). The remit of the Research Allocation Committee is to evaluate the scientific merit and possible surgical relevance of research proposed by Fellows of the College.
The main applicant for grants/fellowships must be in good standing with the College. Surgeons-in-training, in particular, are encouraged to submit applications for grant funding; this can be in collaboration with more senior Fellows and/or scientists. Each application is carefully evaluated and a final decision taken at the next meeting after each closing date.
For more information on the particular awards, grants and fellowships that the College currently sponsors, please check the links for awards, grants and fellowships located in the left menu.

Lister Institute Research Prizes 2012
Each Research Prize recipient will be awarded £200,000, which can largely be spent as you wish in support of your research over a period of five years. The only significant constraint is that the money cannot be used for a personal salary and you must therefore have guaranteed support for the first three years of the award.
It is currently intended that three Research Prizes will be awarded for commencement in October 20l2, or some other mutually convenient date. The research topic is of the applicants’ own choosing and can be in any of the biological, medical or clinical disciplines or in related areas like chemistry. The only scientific restriction is that the research should lead to greater understanding in or have implications for the field of preventive medicine.
