The Bowden Dental Clinical Skills Facility was opened on 26th September 2007. This facility, the first in a Royal College, will significantly enhance the educational programmes and opportunity for dental Fellows/Members and the wider dental and dental care community. The room has 12 A-Dec dental simulators, which, along with the accompanying instrumentation, can be used by dentists and dental care professionals to acquire or update their clinical skills. There is a mobile demonstrator’s simulator which enables “hands on” courses to be easily delivered. The room also has excellent audio-visual facilities with individual workstations on each unit. Immediately above the skills room there are new lecture theatres.
The Faculty of Dental Surgery will use the facility to support an exciting educational programme attracting well known speakers from the UK and overseas. The facilities are also available to hire, along with lecture and tutorial rooms elsewhere in the College. The Royal College of Surgeons is an ideal venue to host Continuing Professional Development courses with overnight accommodation being available immediately adjacent in the prestigious College Hotel, Ten Hill Place. This will enable residential on-site courses to be delivered, with participants having the prospect of being able to enjoy the centre of Edinburgh on their doorstep.
