Second year students come to the department as part of their SPSSCs. We can take a maximum of two second year students at any time.

The A&E department offers a great opportunity to see real medicine at an early stage of your careers. We will concentrate on the recognition of illness and injury and encourage you to learn about the management of the most common diseases presenting to A&E. There will be the opportunity to learn and practise some practical skills under supervision. Please read the advice for fourth years as the general information also applies to your attachment.

Use the form on this site to guide your aims. This page gives you an idea of goals to achieve during your SSC. Please print it out and keep it with you. Get the duty Consultant or Registrar to sign it as you complete certain tasks and hand it in to Mr Paterson at the completion of your block.

We also ask our second year students to complete a case presentation and discussion on a topic of interest. This is published in the A-Z on this website.
