DENTAL STUDENTS

Welcome to Ninewells Hospital, Accident and Emergency Department.

This attachment allows you to observe the workings of an Accident and Emergency department. We hope that you will see the treatment of the acutely unwell and the way that people presenting to the A&E department are triaged in terms of their medical need.

Two students will be rostered to attend every Thursday evening. We will expect you to arrive at 19:00 hours. The A&E department is on level 4 of Ninewells, accessible by stairs and lifts at the back of the concourse. Please dress smartly; shirt and ties for the gentlemen, appropriate dress for the ladies. Bring your white coat, name badge, and introduce yourself to the duty A&E consultant and Charge nurse.

The workload of the department can be very variable. We will try to spend time with you but a formal programme cannot be guaranteed. You are not expected to see or become involved in the management of dental or maxillo-facial problems. After an introduction to the department, we will attach you to a member of the medical staff and ask you to shadow that person.

The attachment will finish at 22:00 hours but you are welcome to stay later if you have a safe means of getting home. Please get your logbook signed off at the end of the evening.

Remember, your attendance (or lack of it) will be recorded.
