Polypharmacy and Medical Complexity in Gerodontology

Overview

This webinar will provide a review of commonly encountered medications in the older adult and examples of clinically relevant scenarios with case based discussions. Dental management techniques for the medically complex patient will be considered, including prescribing considerations and those on anticoagulants and mental health medications.

This webinar series is in partnership with the British Society of Gerodontology.

  1. Provide an overview of the common medical complexities within older adults

  2. Review commonly encountered medications in older adults

  3. Provide case based discussion in the context of polypharmacy

Panellists

Our panellists include:

  • Mr Daniel Gillway - Daniel works in special care dentistry across Oxfordshire in the community dental service. He has completed a Diploma in special care dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and was awarded a research grant from the British Society of Gerodontology in 2021 to investigate the feasibility of 3D scanning and printing dentures in care homes

  • Miss Thea Dickens - Thea is a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry  for Sheffield Teaching Hospital Trust. She runs a specialist lead domiciliary service within Sheffield. and has an interest in dental anxiety management including CBT, Sedation and GA.
