As an organisation focused on improving standards of surgical care and patient outcomes, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is extremely concerned about the recent publication in the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) (“Laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by a surgical care practitioner: a review of outcomes”) detailing the experience of a Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) performing laparoscopic cholecystectomies.

In a landmark collaboration aimed at addressing the critical shortage of skilled surgical care in conflict and disaster zones, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is teaming up with the David Nott Foundation (DNF) to later this year host their Hostile Environment Surgical Training UK (HEST-UK) course at the College in Edinburgh.

In a joint collaboration, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow are inviting applications for the new role of Chair of the Scottish Surgical Simulation Collaborative. The bi-collegiate group are looking for someone to chair a number of collaborative meetings a year and to chair subgroups and workstreams as required while promoting the groups objectives in the field of surgical simulation.
